District Convention Information

Meet the new President for 2006-2007

 Tom Helligso®

Tom is a long time member of the, “Omaha Nebraska Exchange Club”.  He was actually invited to join by his father-in law to join at the time, and since that time his wife and son have also joined him in his efforts to make Exchange a family affair. Along with his efforts to assist Exchange he is also involved with many other community functions and his church.

He has been extremely involved as an individual at club and district level.  At club level he served as a club President, a multitude of committee chairs and as a committee member many times; but his real love is hosting the ticket sales for the Omaha Club’s annual College World Series event. His involvement at district has increased to the level as our next President, but those involved with District Exchange know he has been involved for many years especially as the Division 1 Director.

Having his wife Sandy and son Tommy involved as members has made it an exciting time. In addition to having one son Tom and Sandy also have two daughters, Tami & Trish along with four grandsons. He has been a successful real estate broker for over 30 years in eastern Nebraska . He enjoys taking his grandsons to sporting events, and watching them in their own sporting events such as baseball, basketball and hockey. He is an avid golfer, enjoys traveling with family and friends and really likes outdoor activities; actually participating in mountain climbing, canoeing and other physical challenges.

The district Board has approved starting in the 2006-2007 year an increase of dues for the district. Current quarterly dues was raised from $6.00 to $7.50, or now $30.00 a year per member. The Breakdown below will give some ideas where the money is earmarked.

·          $2.00 additional funding to help control cost of the convention, training of mandatory meetings and also provide an effort to increase member attendance of these functions.

·          $1.00 for general fund and operating cost increase for travel and other needs of officers and their visits to National Training and Conventions.

·          $1.00 for youth programs and honoring youth at district level. Start looking at building a fund to increase the annual awards provided and expenses related to the cost of the program.

·          $ .50 for membership growth incentives and new club building efforts.

·         $1.50 additional each year for National Foundation of the Prevention of Child Abuse. This will be presented in the name of a district member (former Mr. or Mrs. Exchange Members to be named in progression) for the Berkey Fellowship Contribution. The money may also be used for local CAP center development.
